Purchasing your campervan insurance

As the owner of a campervan, you may value the freedom and flexibility that it provides you with.  You may also appreciate that having a corresponding level of peace of mind, may require finding the most appropriate campervan insurance.

These days, if you have a campervan, leaving it without campervan cover is typically not an option (even if you keep it off road) unless you return your vehicle tax disc to the DVLA and make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).

Campervan versus car insurance

Although both are on road vehicles, there are some major differences in the insurance that you may need for a campervan to that required for a car.

For a start, your campervan:

  • provides you with what may be very sophisticated and luxurious accommodation and it may be fitted out to a very high standard with a significant level of internal equipment;
  • typically may have cost you a whole lot more than a family car;
  • is a much bigger vehicle in length, width and weight and so has very different requirements  when it comes to dealing with breakdowns and the like than would be necessary with a standard car;
  • may have additional features  like an awning or a  generator and possibly an add-on toilet, which may need to be taken into account.

So regular car insurance just isn‘t going to provide you with the cover that you need to protect your investment in your campervan.

Campervan insurance cover though, doesn’t have to cost you significant amounts of money and discounts may be available if you try to have only experienced drivers on your policy – you’ll typically have to pay more for drivers under 25 or those who have not held their licence for very long.

You may wish to bear in mind though that since campervans are used as recreational vehicles, campervan insurance may typically not provide cover for day-to-day use or commuting.

Term Life Insurance Laddering Approach

In a blog post in April 2009, I wrote about Layering Term Life Insurance to provide different levels of coverage over a period of time.  Layering or laddering several different term lengths can help address different time horizons associated with different needs for life insurance.

As an example, a 35 year married man with two young children (ages 7 and 13), earning $75,000 annually, has 20 years left on his mortgage (currently $250,000).  He and his wife expect both children to attend college.  H

Life Insurance Awareness Month

September is Life Insurance awareness month and there is no better time to reevaluate your life insurance needs.  Many insurance companies across the nation are getting together campaigns to increase awareness of the importance of life insurance in hopes that more people will carry appropriate coverage.  As an example, Lincoln Financial Group is supporting efforts to raise public education on life insurance policies pointed out in the article Lincoln Financial Group Goes Online for Life Insurance Awareness Month found on SacBee.com.

The Insurance and Retirement Solutions for Lincoln, Mark Konen, believes the importance of life insurance cannot be overstated.

What is life insurance?

Sometimes in life, we need to expect the unexpected. Although death is not something we like to think about, eventually it will happen to us all. Should the worst happen, then surely you would want to make sure that your loved ones were provided for and that they were financially secure if you were not to be around?

This is where life insurance comes in, available from Endsleigh.co.uk. Many people haven’t really thought about it and others think that they don’t need it, but life insurance is one of those things that you do need to think about, and sooner rather than later.

We never know when our time might be up but it’s not until we have responsibilities – a spouse, children, a mortgage – that we really start to think about taking out life insurance. Full post…

Understanding general Liability insurance

When mentioned, general liability insurance should be familiar to most of those who dabble in business, as it is very important to business owners. In general, general liability insurance protects the insured from liability risks imposed by claims and lawsuits. Since businesses revolve around liabilities, the liability risks are much higher for business owners. If you are sued for claims that are covered by your general insurance policy, the coverage will provide you due protection. All defense costs will be covered in such cases, and you will not have to worry about burning a hole in your pocket get the legal costs settled. Full post…
