Before you jet off on your next holiday, just check you’ve got all your insurance in place. Below are three insurance-related points to check before you leave.

Packing Your EHIC

Depending on where you are travelling to, a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can be a highly useful thing. This will cover you for state health care in all European Economic Area (EEA) countries, and so if you find yourself injured or ill, you will be able to receive either free or cheaper health care than you otherwise would.
However, you should be warned that an EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance as it won’t cover the costs for things such as repatriation and sometimes even rescue efforts.

The Need For Cover

Travel insurance is therefore a must no matter where you are travelling, and no matter how long your trip will be. Outside of the EEA it is especially important, but even within the EEA it will give you peace of mind about any extra costs a European Health Insurance card won’t cover, and it will also cover you for other things that could go wrong – such as lost luggage or flight cancellations.

Always Read the Small Print

Thirdly, you should always read the small print of your travel insurance conditions in order to fully ensure you know exactly what you are covered for. This is especially important if you intend on doing anything on your trip that would be classed as “hazardous”.
Additionally, you should always make sure you’re open about any medical conditions you may have, as not stating these can mean your insurance will not cover you for complications related to your condition.
